An almost invisible reminder of when there was much more rail activity here, a nearly buried diamond amidst the CN, former SOO and GB&W, rails at Waupaca, WI on 4 Oct. '14. The spur coming down from the main line and heading out of frame to the left leads to Waupaca Foundry, Plant 1. The spur heading out of frame at bottom center, as well as the still active spur, ran past the SOO freight depot, which still stands, to numerous rail customers that existed before Waupaca Foundry began, as well as toward the GB&W line into town. The still existing spur and the nearly buried spur curving off to the right lead to an industrial area at the intersection of Oborn St. and Ware St. which no longer receives rail service. The spur that angles off to the lower right crossed Balch St. and paralleled Hibbard St. Looking west from the intersection of Hibbard St. and Balch St. |
