Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1963. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9484, an FF-20 built by Fairbanks-Morse in October of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of service. The trainphone apparatus has been removed in preparation for trade-in. Also note the old steam locomotive tender, partially visible at the far left. |
