BO 2-8-2 #4559
Title:  BO 2-8-2 #4559
Description:  Thanks to Chuck Zeiler for correctly identifying this renumbered and relabeled locomotive at the Huntington Heritage Museum. Originally built for Toledo Angola & Western as their #100, this 1924 Alco-Schenectady 2-8-2 Mikado was later sold to Elk River Coal & Lumber as their #10 and eventually donated to the emerging Huntington Heritage Museum in 1963. A note on the back states "On display at the old B&O station known as Heritage Village". While at Huntington, it was preserved and renumbered as B&O 4559, in honor of a loco that used to serve the town. Original specs - 50" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 22x28" cylinders, engine weight of 202,000 lb, tractive effort of 41,469 lb. Edward H. Weber photo

B&O 4559, actually Elk River Coal & Lumber Co #10
Title:  B&O 4559, actually Elk River Coal & Lumber Co #10
Description:  Former Elk River Coal & Lumber Co. 2-8-2 #10 was repainted and relettered as B&O 4559 and placed on display at Heritage Station in Huntington, WV. I took this photo while a downpour was drenching everything in sight in June 1992, exact date uncertain. This engine had been placed here back around 1977 and was literally on open display for many years. The lettering is not completely accurate for B&O's steam power, but it sure looks good to me.

B&O 4559 (Elk River Coal & Lumber Co. #10), fireman's cab window
Title:  B&O 4559 (Elk River Coal & Lumber Co. #10), fireman's cab window
Description:  This view shows the yellow trim around the side and rear windows for the fireman's side of this engine. Elk River Coal & Lumber Co. 2-8-2 #10 has been on display at Huntington, WV's Heritage Station since around 1977 and is still there as of July 2016, but repainted back into the original Elk River paint and number. This has been a fabulous way for people to admire the machinery of yesteryear that brought us up to today.
