C&NW 5097 and Three More EMD Products at Proviso Yards  Contributor's Pick!
Proviso is the name of a township. In Illinois several towns/villages and possiblty unincorporated areas make up a township. Several townships are in a county. There is, for example, a Proviso Township High School. CNW's Proviso Yards was partially in three towns/villages and I am not sure which one this picture was taken in so I have listed "Proviso" as the location. Note also, Proviso had about 1/2 dozen separate yards each having a specificfunction, e.g., Yard 9 functioned mainly as the inbound yard for trains that needed to be humped. I'm not sure which yard this is. My guess it was taken in Melrose Park, Proviso Yard 5 East.
