I still don't understand why UP found it necessary to close the Tennesee Pass line. Can anybody explain their logic to me?

They said the grade was to steep and since the engines where getting bigger the tracks were to sharp for them, I think it is a bad choice, they should have just used sd40's, sd40-2's, sd40T-2's and locomotives like that for this, I would say this is one of the places that should have a tourist train that UP does with old DRGW, and SP locomotives

I don't believe Tennessee Pass has been formally abandoned. They can't pull up the rails unless they go through the process of paperwork.
