WB. Here is an image of an official photo that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in October of 1923. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4700, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in Juniata during October of 1923, renumbered "6699" during 1933, and retired in July of 1950 after 27 years of faithful service. Note the piston extensions and the passenger service signal line. This is the very first M-1, fresh from the Erecting & Machine Shop. William E. Burket Collection. |
