| Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5831 and #5826. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as 3,000 horsepower BP-60's for passenger service, later regeared and downgraded to 2,500 horsepower BH-50's for freight and helper service, and retired in September of 1962. #5831 was constructed in January of 1948, while #5826 was built in September of 1948. They're waiting for their next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Also visible in the background (L to R) are part of the 7th Street Bridge, a conical sanding tower, a concrete coaling station, as well as portions of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. |
