| Road Power. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad road locomotives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 02 September 1960. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9796 and #9772. Both are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. Along with an N-5 caboose, these locomotives are backing into the Hollidaysburg Yards. They would have been driven forward from East Altoona to the Wye Switches, turned about, and then run backwards from the Wye into Hollidaysburg where they would pick-up an outbound freight train. The PRR's Freight Station is visible at the left, and Hollidaysburg's historic Chimney Rocks can be seen in the far distance. |
