CIL 4-6-0 #451 - Chicago, Indianapolis & Lousville (Monon)  Contributor's Pick!
Delivered by Alco-Brooks to the Hoosier Monon line in October of 1916, this Pacific was one of only three K-6 class locos. According to the Monon Technical & Historical Society as well as www.SteamLocomotives.com, the loco was retired in 1947, contrary to the date for the photo as listed by the photographer, C.W. Cassidy, as 1948. I will be posting it with an approximate date in 1947. Specifics - 73" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 285,000 lb, tractive effort of 41,875 lb.
