| Located at MP 175, the CN has a spur to serve Noffke Lumber. Noffke is located on what was the southern end of the CF Interlocking controlled by CF Tower at the crossing of the Soo by the CNW to serve it's north Oshkosh industrial spur which now ends at Pluswood. There was a nice long siding here as well as numerous spurs into a variety of industries. Noffke's is the only remaining spur. It is not an uncommon sight to see a bulkhead flat spotted here. Noffke Lumber began as a coal dealer known as Noffke Fuel, sometime before the depression. The business did well and had three dealerships in different cities, one of which seems to have been Appleton, WI. The founder of the business decided to focus on the most successful one of the three and sold off the two not in Oshkosh. The coal business did fairly well, but as coal stoves in homes began to decline, the decision was made to switch to lumber dealing. This turned out to be a great decision as it was made just in time to catch the post Wold War II building boom. Noffke Lumber had a yard in Menasha, which is now closed, and still has a yard in Waupaca. They also have a nice catch phrase, "A yard of good lumber". |
