I believe this car is one of a group of about 100 cars that were originally built to haul hard produce such as oranges and potatoes in bulk. They originally had refrigeration and were covered with insulating foam that was painted orange with black markings and also had specially equipped discharge gates. Rather quickly, this application did not pan out and these cars were soon hauling grain. I see the insulating foam is long gone and this car is now equipped with regular gravity discharge gates. This is one of four cars the BNSF still has from this noble, but failed, experiment.
