RPCX 3125, "Paul Revere" (nee-PRR) |
Description: |
The 3125 was built by the Budd Company in 1951 for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a class PP85 Parlor Car with a 29 seat parlor and a 5 seat drawing room. It was originally numbered 7141 and named "Paul Revere". This car was used in Pennsy's and Penn Central's Senator and Congressional fleets which operated Boston, New York City and Washington DC. The car was acquired by Amtrak and renumbered to 3641 and subsequently renumbered again to 3327. With a heavy overhaul by Amtrak in 1989, the car was rebuilt into a Cafe-Lounge car and renumbered to 3125. The 3125 was sold at auction in 1995 to a private investor and used on the California Western Railroad where it became stranded in Willits, California due to washouts on the line in 1998. The car was saved from the scrappers torch when purchased in 2006 by Glenn Bowman and then trucked from Willits to the Union Pacific Railroad in Sacramento for shipment to Ohio. The car has since been rebuilt into a private cafe-lounge in a Pennsylvania Railroad motif. It has retained the name "Paul Revere" throughout its life. |
