Album Info:The Autauga Northern Railroad ( AUT ) began operations as WATCO'S 3rd Alabama short line in April of 2011, but originally got its start as the Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad ( GM&O ). The GM&O was sold off & with the AUT operations, WATCO now operates 2 segments ( Alabama Southern Railroad ( ABS ) & Autauga Northern Railroad ( AUT ) of the former GM&O. Southern Railway/ NS operated the Prattville Branch to Montgomery, Al. to interchange with CSXT up until April of 2011 when Autauga Northern Railroad began operations. Today paper products are the primary commodity shipped on the 44 mile short line, which runs from Maplesville to Autauga Creek. The AUT interchanges with NS at Maplesville, Al. In addition to freight rail service, WATCO also provides switching services at Prattville to International Paper, the largest customer on the line.
