Album Info:This album contians photos of the last run to ply the rails of the Covington Branch which took place shotly after 11:00 Wes. morning Sep.30,2009. The last 30 or so cars which were stored in Newton Ga. were pulled from the line along with the GP9 6580 and GP10 8395. The Funeral Train was interchanged to CSX where local job A721 took it east to Social Circle Ga. where it was given back to the Great Walton. The train was then ran north to Monroe Ga. where the cars were placed back into storage. The power from the Covington branch then went to work on the Social Circle branch along with the standard power of GP9s 6555 and 4537. We then followed the two locals around while they performed their work for the day and during this they even pulled a RTEX SW8 out from the RTEX complex in Monroe. So a most interesting day on the Great Walton with several very rare moves made. One such move other than the last run on the Covington Branch was a five unit consist on the local heading back south to Social Circle near the end of the day. This included the 4537 and 6555 leading the train which is rare in it's self due to the southward movement is always made as a reverse move do to the stub end interchange with CSX and the line set up. Of the five unit consist, the other three units trailed the train, RTEX SW8 227, GRWR GP10 8395 & GRWR GP9 6580! many thanks to Nikos Kavoori andothers who had bits of info to the last run of the Covington Branch!
