| Album Info: | Images taken in and around the former Southern Pacific yard at Warm Springs located in Fremont, CA. UP took over the yard with purchase of Espee in September 1996. BNSF received trackage rights to San Jose (from their yard at Richmond, CA), and regularly visited the yard to interchange traffic with UP. The yard served the NUMMI auto plant, a joint venture between GM and Toyota. Other local industries were also served by this yard. Warm Springs closed in April 2010, effective with the closure of the NUMMI auto plant. However, locals still call upon the yard to serve local industries, and the BNSF visits once a week to interchange a few cars.
Future plans by UP may include development of the yard and surrounding area into an Intermodal facility, however, time will tell... |
