Album Info:Here are 11 builder's photos of Pennsylvania Railroad Diesel locomotives. All of these locomotives were part of the first wave of Diesels, a wave which soon led to the passing of the Age of Steam and the end of an era. These are official Pennsylvania Railroad photos that have been in my possession since 1969.

Description:  Here is a builder's photo of (L to R) Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5823 and another "Centipede" whose number is not recorded. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as 3,000 horsepower BP-60's for passenger service, but later regeared and downgraded to 2,500 horsepower BP-50's for freight and helper service. #5823 was built in March of 1947 and retired in September of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. Together, they weighed over a million pounds!
